The Grant Code which was submitted for your consideration

amended, as was foreshadowed in paragraph 4 of my savingram under reference, by the addition of certain slight changes in wording and by the alteration of certain of the clauses dealing with salary necessitated by the changes in Government salary scales recommended by the Salaries Commission.

This Code has been considered and accepted by the Grant Schools Council and by a meeting composed of the Heads and Correspon- dents of Grant Schools, with the exception that the five Anglican Schools reserve their position in regard to fundamental changes in the Code, or a new Code. In this connection I invite reference to my despatch No. 166 of 14th July, 1948. The meeting expressed the hope that the reservations of the five Anglican Schools will not delay the final approval and imple- mentation of the amended Code.

I am informed that a meeting of the Colonial Office Advisory Committee on Education has been called for 20th July when it is desired to discuss the proposed amendments.

I enclose, therefore, nineteen copies of the amended Code together with nineteen copies of notes on the proposed 1948 amendments.
